Just got a new yak and wanted to know how to store it. With my pro-explorer, i used to lean it on its side against the wall of my garage. Since I just bought my first NEW yak, I want to realy make sure I do it right. Would anybody recommend another way? I was thinking upside down on saw horses or just flat on the floor. I tried searchng this topic but couldn't find any old posts.
Thanks

Store it in a way that spreads that weight of the kayak over the largest possible area.
I've heard that some plastic yaks warp under prolonged exposure to concrete floors and extreme temp changes.  I would hazard to say the effects are minimal for a moderate florida climate though.
I'm no expert though  Grin

Oh ya and don't use ratchet straps.

I hang mine from the ceiling in my garage by the handles. I have also had them sitting on saw horses for days while working on them. I have seen them stored every way they can be. Just put something on the ground to keep the sides scratch free if you decide to lean it against a wall. I use 12" sections of pool noodle when I clean my yak in the driveway, I am sure they would work for your application.

The only time I've seen deformation is when they have been strapped down on a roof rack too tight out in the sun. I don't have that problem though, I slide them in the bed of my truck.

I have one hanging from a ceiling with a hoist system and one on its' side and one upside down on a homemade PVC rack system with cushioned pipe wrapping material.  They said upright is best solution but not very practicable with hull down is big NO NO due to warping or "oil canning".  I see many on cushioned saw horses but remember not to store hull down  Grin  Grin  Grin  This article may be helpful to you:

Thanks to all for the quick responses.
After reading that article, I guess it was fine on its side unless I get some fancy type harness. Thanks again! :||

I made a cart for mine out of 2x4's.  It holds a few kayaks, fishing reels and a ton of fishing gear.  The casters on it are nice for cleaning out and organizing the garage...I will see if I can find the post.

I have two yaks hanging in the garage on ladder hangers purchased at home depot for about $5.00 each ($20.00 total for 4).

Thanks for posting that old thread! Good info and I really like the ladder hanger system you got tex...sweet & simple.
I think I'll go with the wall mounted ladder hanger idea!
Thanks again everyone.
